Behind the lens at a concert!
I don’t really advertise concert photography, and I’m not trying to pivot into shooting shows for everyone, but I do photograph concerts for a venue in Virginia and it’s honestly one of the coolest parts of my work. Every night is different. Different artists, different crowds, different energy. And it’s not just the performers that love being in front of the camera, the crowd does too. People are having a good time, they want the moment, and the vibe is always up. Creatively, it’s an outlet for me. It pulls me out of the everyday stuff photographers do and puts me in this totally different world. It’s dark, the lighting is unpredictable, and you have to be locked in the whole time. It pushes my skills hard, in the best way. You don’t get a redo. You either catch it or you don’t.
Working with an event company as an artist brings a level of stability that’s rare when you’re freelance. That peace of mind hits different. It lets me create without always feeling like I’m holding my breath. Not to mention everyone there has been so good to me, I love them for that!
Some of my favorite shows I’ve photographed so far are ZZ Top, Yungblud, and Sawyer Hill. Sawyer Hill opened for Yungblud and absolutely killed it. I actually found him on TikTok first, which makes it even more wild seeing that play out in real life through my lens.
The trippiest part, though? Having celebrities in front of my camera. Like, that’s a real thing that happened. Nobody can ever take that away from me. I can’t share everything from every show, but I’ll post a few favorites when I’m able. Just wanted to throw this one on the blog because, yeah… It’s rad, and I’m grateful.
