The venues around Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Pittsboro lean toward gardens, farms and historic inns, and they all photograph best when the timeline respects the light. A few worth knowing:
The Carolina Inn
The Chapel Hill wedding for a lot of couples who met at Carolina. Six ballrooms, each with its own character, and the Old Well Ballroom with its black-and-white checkered floor and chandeliers is the most photographed room in town. Steps from campus, so portraits at the Old Well and under the arboretum's canopy are a short walk, not a drive.
Fearrington Village Pittsboro
A collection of venues in the countryside just south of Chapel Hill: a 1927 barn that seats 125 to 250, an open-air garden terrace, the Granary, and the Fearrington House Restaurant for intimate dinners. The gardens are immaculate and the light across the pastures at the end of the day is some of the best in the Triangle. Receptions up to 250.
The Barn of Chapel Hill at Wild Flora Farm
A restored white barn with a 35-foot vaulted ceiling on a 22-acre working flower farm. Up to 200 seated or 250 cocktail-style. The flowers in your bouquet may have been cut a few hundred yards away that morning, and the fields make for portraits that don't look like anywhere else.
